TWO SPECIAL SERVICES On Sunday 19 September at 10.30 am we shall be holding a special youth service to say “Au revoir” to some of our young people who are now going to university. We are very fortunate that we have had these young people who have enriched the worship of the Church by being servers and leading our worship as readers and intercessors. Some have served on the PCC and contributed in other ways. Although it will be sad to say “Au revoir” we thank them sincerely for their important contribution to the life of our church and wish them every blessing for the future and in their future life at university.
The following Sunday 26 September at 10.30 am is our Dedication Festival. It is 172 years since Christ Church was dedicated as a place of worship. Much has happened since then and this service is an opportunity to thank God for our Church and its people. Also this day is designated Back to Church Sunday and so it would be lovely to meet friends old and new as we celebrate the life and ministry of our Church.
Our Harvest thanksgiving services will take place on Sunday 10 October. As in recent years we shall be concentrating upon the needs of the developing countries in world. This time we will be supporting the work of Water Aid who work to improve the water supply and water resources in those areas where good quality water is scarce.
At our services there will be the opportunity to donate to this charity. Traditional Harvest Gifts are also welcome. Tinned goods will be donated to Warrington Open Door and floral gifts delivered around the parish.
“Playtimers” resumes on Friday 10 September. All children, babies and pre-school, and their carers are welcome.
We meet in Padgate Community Centre (near the station) at 10 am until 11.15 am.
A donation of Ł1 per family covers the cost of room hire and consumables.
Toys, activities, friendship and a welcome cup of tea are provided!

CHURCHYARD REGULATIONS
Over the years we try to be sensitive to the wishes of relatives as to how they mark their loved ones resting place in the churchyard. However sometimes these are not suitable or appropriate. We have Churchyard regulations to address this issue, which are agreed to at the time of burial.
Regretfully these regulations are being considerably ignored in some instances. Therefore we are having to inform those whose look after the contravening burial plots that they must comply. Otherwise action will have to be taken by the Rector, PCC and Wardens to enforce the situation.
This process can be painful and sensitive. We ask that all who are involved remember that this is difficult and we need to respect everyone’s feelings as the situation is addressed.
We could do with some more volunteers to clean the brasses – about half an hour of your time, once every few weeks. The brasses are: the Offertory plate, Baptism water jug, the Lectern and the Cross.

Our warmest congratulations go to Hetty Sutton who will be 90 years old on 17th September 2010
Happy 90th birthday
Congratulations to Richard Magrath on being called to the Bar.
On 29th July, Richard was called as a Barrister and Member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn.
The Cathedral has a brilliant new website, which not only tells you about the Cathedral but also has a very comprehensive “Events List”. Do please visit it at www.liverpoolcathedral.org.uk. It is really exciting as it also shows photos and comments on every aspect of the Cathedral and its life.
Like all churches, the Cathedral is experiencing a financial shortfall and is doing everything it can to raise more funds. During July one of the more adventurous ways was a sponsored “freefall abseil” down the outside of the Cathedral! It started with Dean Justin and was followed by many of the Cathedral company, both old and young. One of the oldest was George at eighty years of age! As yet there is not a final total of money raised but it was felt to be successful enough that a repeat has been arranged for summer next year, so if you want to have a go, book your place now!
4 June saw the 100th Anniversary of the Lady Chapel which is the oldest part of the Cathedral. A great deal of preparation and hard work went into making this a very special event. For the past year, a group of volunteers has been working through the archives to find out more about the building and consecration of this part of the Cathedral. They produced a really interesting exhibition which everyone enjoyed. There were special services on the Sunday prior to both the 29 June and Victorian Workshops for Schools during the week, culminating in a huge service for young people attended by many schools. A lovely new booklet was produced about the “Noble Women” windows on the staircase at the back of the Lady Chapel. It is well worth reading.
The Liverpol Biennial Festival 2010 (18 September-25 November) is happening again and once more the Cathedral will be hosting a variety of different exhibits. Tony Cragg RA. will be displaying three works in the Well and Lin Holland and Jane Poulton who were “artists in residence” at the Cathedral in 2008, will be back with a stunning new installation in the Chapter House.
